Founders meeting of Caucasus Regional Environmental Center stresses peace and stability in region

Tbilisi: Founders meeting of the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center was held at the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, which was opened by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Kakha Kakabadze with a welcoming speech.

Tbilisi: Founders meeting of the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center was held at the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, which focused over maintaining peace and stability in the Caucasus region.

The Founders meeting was opened by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Kakha Kakabadze with a welcoming speech.  According to the Deputy Minister, the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center has been implementing a number of important projects related to environmental protection, both locally and internationally.

“One of the main priorities for Georgia is peace and stability in the Caucasus region. The Caucasus Regional Environmental Center expresses the willingness of the countries to implement active cooperation and regional approaches on environmental issues,” Kakha Kakabadze noted.

 The Acting Chief of Cooperation of the EU Delegation, Katalin German, stressed the importance of the Caucasus Regional Environmental Protection Center’s activity in 2022, in the direction of environmental protection and sustainable development.

 “We support the vision of the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center – to actively address environmental challenges at the national and regional levels and to work on waste management, the circular economy and climate change,” Katalin German noted.

 At the meeting held at the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, the parties discussed the updated regional strategy of the REC Caucasus, the issue of activating the role of the Centre to achieve the UN 2030 sustainable development goals at both national and regional levels; 

  • the potential of REC Caucus as a coordinating organization in pollutant and quality of pollutant water Vro in the case of solving the problems of Georgia and Armenia and to enhance Azerbaijan’s involvement; 
  • the Centre’s active activity in implementing the EU Water Framework Directive; the need for close cooperation with the Caucasus Regional Environmental Centre to improve policy and legislation; during regional and bilateral negotiations, 
  • the Centre’s role as a facilitator in attracting donor organizations; in terms of climate change, the necessity of cooperation, which will facilitate adaptation and mitigation processes in this direction Hand in hand.
