Georgia: The National Food Agency (NFA) of Georgia hosted a working meeting with milk production business operators and association representatives on April 10, 2025, Thursday.
About 40 industry leaders attended the discussion, which focused on the agency’s and business operator’s shared obligations, collaboration, and efforts. Ensuring the safety and dependability of the milk and dairy products in the realization network was the primary objective of the meeting.
Zurab Chekurashvili, the head of the National Food Agency, focused attention on control mechanisms and noted that this year, the National Food Agency has implemented 4786 state controls in milk and milk production companies and realization facilities;
According to April data, the rate of violations was 3.3%. In addition, raw milk research on various indicators is actively underway, in particular:
• 300 samples will be collected this year for the examination of veterinary drugs and other contaminants residues;
• To determine the purity of fat in milk and dairy products – 300 samples;
To study Brussels – 200 samples;
• Staphylococcus in cheese to release enterotoxin – 50 samples;
• Quagulaza in cheese for the research of positive carrotoccus aureus – 50 samples.
• Aflatoxin M1 in drinking milk – 100 samples.
• For determining the content of lead in milk and dairy products (including children’s food) – 20 samples;
• 165 samples to detect salmonella and listeria
It is noteworthy that milk and dairy product samples should be taken properly and supervised by the Georgian National Food Agency to avoid contamination of research raw materials.
The National Food Agency (NFA) of Georgia intensively checks milk production companies, on average, 10 times a year. The “farm to table” control includes a complete production chain, as well as laboratory research on various indicators. Last year, in 2024 the National Food Agency implemented 17 thousand state controls, and the rate of violations reached 3.2%.
