In a meeting held between Georgian and Polish Prime Ministers on Thursday, March 17, the security challenges created in the Black Sea region as a result of the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine, as well as the European Union membership bids submitted by the Associate Trio countries of Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova, were discussed.
During the meeting hosted in Georgia’s Black Sea coast city of Batumi, Irakli Garibashvili reassured his Polish counterpart of Georgia’s political support and solidarity with Ukraine, particularly through humanitarian aid supplied by the Georgian side to the Ukrainian people during the ongoing crisis.
Both the Georgian and Polish prime ministers emphasised the importance of the international community’s united efforts in de-escalating the situation in Ukraine and highlighted the steps being taken to end the country’s war.
Moreover, the discussion also focused on Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, as well as the advancement made by the nation on this path. The Georgian Prime Minister emphasised the significance of the European Commission’s good decision on Georgia’s EU membership request, as well as the assistance of international allies, notably Poland, in the process.
While discussing during the meeting, both leaders also emphasised the “difficult” humanitarian and security situation in the Russian-occupied territories of Georgia. Morawiecki reiterated his staunch support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as the country’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration efforts.
In the meeting, the “friendly relations” and “strong partnership” between Georgia and Poland were also underlined. Questions of further deepening of strategic partnership and high-level dialogue in various fields were answered. The sides discussed the significance of the 30th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic ties between the two countries, marked this year.

As part of their visit, Garibashvili and Morawiecki opened a monument to former Polish President Lech Kaczynski in Batumi. The Polish politician, a well-known supporter of Georgia during his time in government, died in 2010.
