The composer union of Georgia held a presentation on the works of Meri Davitashvili. She was one of famous Georgian composer who also worked as teacher.
She is also one of founder of Georgian children’s music. This presentation displayed her selected works before the audience. This presentation was held in the concert hall of the Creative Union of Composers of Georgia.
The collection was published with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports. The event was dedicated to the anniversary date i.e. the 100th anniversary of the birth of Meri Davitashvili.
The sheet music publication namely “Meri Davitashvili – Selected Works” is a four-volume set of the composer’s works of various genres. The volumes I and II “Piano Music” Volume I includes works arranged according to the appropriate level of difficulty for both primary school and older students. It also includes the works intended for professional musicians-performers.
On the other hand, the volume II again combines large-scale works arranged according to complexity – piano sonatinas and works for piano and orchestra “Concertino” and “Fantasia”.
Similarly, the volume III – “Songs” are covers both children’s songs, as well as songs from animated and feature films. Volume IV – “Chamber Music” includes both chamber-instrumental, ensemble works with accompanying instrumental parts, as well as chamber-vocal works created on the verses of famous Georgian poets.
The newly established Meri Davitashvili Prize by the Composers’ Union was awarded to composer Kakha Tsabadze at the event.
The presentation of the sheet music collection also included a screening of the musical documentary film namely ” And This Is How I Became a Child”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of composer Meri Davitashvili. The author and director of the film is Dimitri Butliashvili.
The completion of the documentary film “And That’s How I Became a Child” was made possible with the support of the Ministry of Culture. In particular, the project won the competition under category “Support for Documentary/Science-Popular Cinema”.
The aim of this competition is to support the development of science-popular and documentary cinema and to encourage the creative activities of independent artists/private studios.
