Pila, Poland: The Georgian judoists successfully competed in both individual and mixed team competitions at the U-23 European Championship held in Poland. Georgia’s judo team won six medals at the European Championship.
The Georgian team won three gold medals in individual competition, one silver and one bronze, and in mixed team competition – one gold medal.
14 athletes were competing in the European Championship on behalf of Georgia. Among them, Giorgi Terashvili (-73 kg), Kote Kapanadze (-81 kg), and Irakli Demetrashvili (+100 kg) won gold medals, Nino Loladze (-57 kg) won the silver medal, Tengo Zirakashvili (-66 kg) won the bronze medal.
Eter Askilashvili (-70 kg), Akaki Japaridze (-90 kg), Nino Papidze (+70 kg), Irakli Demetrashvili (+90 kg), Nino Loladze (-57 kg) and Giorgi Loladze (-73 kg) defended Georgia’s honor. A mixed team of judoists under 23 years of age in Georgia defeated the Ukrainian team 4:3 in the final and became the European champion.
It is noteworthy that the Georgian U-23 team finished the European Championship in first place in the overall team ranking. Georgian judoists were at the top of the continent with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia.
