The sports committee held an important session in the Gori Municipality of Georgia. The session was held at the administrative building of the city hall. Members discussed the sports policy and infrastructure development in Shida Kartli municipalities.
As per Irakli Medzmariashvili the chairman of the committee the committee members have visited several regions of Georgia and learned about the successes and challenges of the local sports community.
Irakli Medzmariashvili furthet mentioned that the committee is working on making appropriate changes in the legislation in coming years to provide more resources and opportunities to the local government representatives for promoting sports.
At the beginning of the session the state representative of Shida Kartli Levan Kharabadze welcomed the committee members and mayors of municipalities. He said that the Shida Kartli region has produced many successful sportsmen and the local government is making every effort to continue great sports traditions in the future as well.
The representative of Shida Kartli also added that along with various sports tournaments, “summer sports games” are held in various sports category. It is worth mentioning that at the committee’s external meeting the mayors of Gori, Khashuri, Kaspi, and Kareli municipalities also spoke about the existing sports infrastructure and future plans in their administrative units.
At the same time the speakers discussed the importance of building swimming pools in Gori, Khashuri, and Kaspi the construction of additional sports grounds, the construction and rehabilitation of existing halls, and the lack of salaries for coaches.
The chairman of the sports committee, speaking on this occasion, added that “ the important sports infrastructural projects have been implemented in the region which has increased the interest of people in the sports . According to him the committee is ready to discuss the issue with relevant ministries to form the state budget for sports facilities.
The committee chairman discussed the issues of the region’s students and people involved in sports. He disclosed that up to 4 thousand children actively practise various sports.
The committee members and a local government representative visited the Guram Papitashvili judo hall, the Nugzar Skhireli wrestling hall, the boxing hall, the Shota Chochishvili Complex sports school, and the Khashuri sports stadium .
Sports are considered good not just for physical health rather also important for the mental health also. The sports tournament are also important for the young people to overcome the bad hebits.
