Georgia: The Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Irakli Karseladze met with representatives of Dutch consulting company “The Stadium Consultancy” hired for the construction of a new stadium in Tbilisi.
The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia shared the details along with the photographs related to the meeting on its official Facebook Page on February 13, 2025, Thursday.
According to the details provided by the Ministry, it should be noted that Ben Winbrink, founder and executive director of The Stadium Consultancy, member of the UEFA Stadium Construction and Management Board, director of Emirates Stadium for 37 years, and John Beat, president of the European Stadium and Security Management Association (ESSMA) for 16 years, represented the consulting team at the meeting. Programming and process S management expert, architect Christian Van Heineken also attended.
During the conference, the parties discussed the key characteristics of the new stadium and exchanged their ideas regarding the fundamental idea of it. The consultants introduced the minister to the results of inspecting potential locations of the stadium and agreed that after processing the information received during his first visit to Georgia, they would present more specific views on the concept.
During a few-day visit to Tbilisi, the consultants met with the management team of the Ministry’s Municipal Development Fund, the leadership of the Georgian Football Federation and Rugby Union. They also checked on the spot several potential locations for the new stadium in Tbilisi, which will eventually be selected as a result of the recommendations of a team of experts.
It is noteworthy that, the new multifunctional stadium with 70 000 fans, with maximum visibility tribunes, will allow the hosting of the highest-ranking football and rugby tournaments in Georgia. The stadium will be UEFA’s highest (4th) category, which, besides holding sporting events, will have a large-scale concert and convention center function.
In 2025, Georgia has to host the Champions League final at the new stadium and because of this, the construction of a new stadium is one of the ambitious tasks they have to complete. From an image point of view, this will also be an important event. The stadium will be designed for both football matches and rugby matches.
