Georgia: The Jighaura Perennial Crops Experimental and Demonstration Base hosted interns from the Parliament of Georgia and members of the Youth Parliament on May 29, 2025, Thursday.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia shared glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook page on Thursday. The Ministry also shared some information along with the photographs.

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, the First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Giorgi Volski, Minister of Environment and Agriculture David Songulashvili, Chairman of the Committee of Agrarian Affairs Gela Samkhrauli, members of the Committee and other guests were present in Jighaura.

David Songulashvili, the Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia addressed the interns with a welcome speech. He noted that the National Base of Genetic Resources of Perennial Cultures of Jighaura is an object of strategic importance, and is a treasure of their country.

In 2007, with the direct involvement and initiative of Bidzina Ivanishvili, he started working on the creation of this base. In 2014, Ivanishvili handed over the base of Jighaura to the state. Notably, the youth visiting the base today had the opportunity to explore the unique collection of vine varieties as well as various perennials.

These students are currently interning at the Parliament of Georgia, and such field visits offer them valuable exposure, deeper knowledge, and inspiration to continue on their path with greater consistency and purpose.

Minister Songhulashvili expressed his warm gratitude towards the interns for their dedication. He said, “Thank you for your interest, for your patriotic soul. On our side, we are ready to be there at any time and in the present.”

According to him, those young people were the future public servants. “Only with such interest and attitude towards work is it possible to strengthen and develop our country,” David Songhulashvili added.

In Jighaura, trainees of the Georgian Parliament apparatus and members of the Youth Parliament also attended the exit session of the Committee of Agrarian Issues.

Additionally, the director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, Levan Ujmajuridze gave a detailed presentation to young people about the activities on the Jighaura base.
