Kutaisi, Georgia: To enhance the internationalization of higher education in Georgia, Kutaisi International University (KIU) and Akaki Tsereteli State University hosted the third International School of Excellence (IES) in Kutaisi from 24 to 26 January 2025.
The International Excellence School focuses on Intellectual Property rights in the fiÂeld of Higher Education.
The IES program was opened by Tamar Ghvamichava, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia. The main theme of the excellence school is “Intellectual Property in Higher Education“.
International Excellence School (IES) refers to an educational program, or a scholarship program. This collaborative initiative by Tamar Ghvamichava, focuses on the student experience, combining theoretical learning with professional experience. The school helps students set goals and achieve them.Â
The IES program will help the participants deepen their knowledge of patents, trademarks, and copyrights and engage in workshops, simulation activities, casual analysis, and group work.
The rector of KIU, Professor Giorgi Khubua, addressed the public with a welcome speech and noted that such events promote international academic and scientific cooperation and sharing of new knowledge.
During his speech, the Rector paid special attention to the new Master’s Program – “Intellectual Property, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship”, which will be implemented by KIU, in partnership with Sakpatent. In turn, the master’s program will contribute to the development of intellectual property protection in the country.

- Soso Giorgadze, the Chairman of the National Center for Intellectual Property of Georgia
- Shalva Kirtadze, the Professor and Rector of Akaki Tsereteli State University,
- Tatiana Phumasoli, the Professor of the University College of London (UCL).
The International Excellence School (EIS) is attended by 30 young scientists and researchers. Throughout the three-day event, participants will enhance their understanding of patents, trademarks, and copyrights, while taking part in workshops, simulations, situational analyses, and group discussions.
