Tbilisi: Levan Davitashvili, the first Vice Prime Minister of Georgia has lauded the government’s recent efforts for Georgia’s integration into the European Union.
The minister expressed hopes that by winning the October election, the government would streamline efforts in this direction. He expressed his views during a press conference with the representatives of media houses.
The minister during a press conference added “In our journey to the European Union, we have been making huge progress. We will try to stabilise our ties with all European Countries so that they can help us in our transition to the European Union.”
She said that the government has taken many decisions regarding integration in the European Union. The recent grant of candidate status to Georgia by the European Council reflected our stand and commitment to European Integration as well.
Davitashvili added, “I am very confident that our relations with European Nations will be strong enough and will help us in many ways. Although the country is passing through the pre-election period we will also try to ensure the progress of the country intact and undisturbed.”
According to him after completing the election process, we will progress again with more strength. He raised his concern about a draft resolution of the European Parliament. The draft resolution prepared by the European Union is titled “Democratic backsliding and threats to political pluralism in Georgia.”
Unfortunately, it demanded the ban on Bidzina Ivanishvili, the Honorary Chair and founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party.
It also proposed banning the other official of the ruling party, Georgian Dream. According to the minister, this would only harm Georgia’s bilateral relations.
At the same time such sanctions can have negative effects not only on the Georgian Dream Party but also on the country’s economy.
At the end of his briefing, he asserted that Georgia would make progress toward integration into the European Union as soon as possible and that the party would record a thumping victory in the election.
