While covering the 10th night of EU protests in Tbilisi a TV Reporter and a cameraman were violently attacked by groups of unidentified, masked individuals.
According to the reports, the reporter and the cameraman were reporting on large-scale EU protests in Tbilisi. The protests were in response to Georgia’s government, which has become more rigid, ending the country’s EU membership process.
According to media reports, on a side street in the capital, Tbilisi, cameraman Giorgi Shetsiruli was kicked on his head, while reporter Maka Chikhladze was forcibly pushed to the ground, resulting in severe injuries.
From the information circulating on several social media platforms, it was recognized that the victims were TV Pirveli journalists. It also came to light that attackers, disguised in complete black, had physically mobbed the journalists and citizens in Rustaveli Avenue, Tbilisi.
After the incident came to the knowledge of local authorities, they later began the investigation. During the inquiry by the state security service of Georgia, Reporter Maka Chikhladze said, “They kicked me, hit me, including in the face.” She also claimed that their equipment, including a microphone, was taken away from them.
Both the press members also told the media that it was a group of around 30 masked men who had attacked them.
The public defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani called the police to take action to ensure the safety of the citizens of Rustaveli Avenue.
The locals have been raising their voices against the attack that happened on the journalist and her teammate, they are together urging the authorities to take immediate and strict action against the attackers.
