Nevis: Premier Mark Brantley, on January 16, 2023, welcomed the Canadian Ambassador to the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States(OECS) to Nevis, Lilian Chatterjee, on her first official visit after her appointment in May 2021.
Welcoming her to the island, Premier Brantley stated that “I’m really elated to welcome Her Excellence, Lilian Chatterjee. She is not someone stranger to St Kitts and Nevis or the Caribbean and above all, she completely understands the issues between Canada and the Caribbean and the relationship that Canada shares with St Kitts and Nevis.
The parties discussed the bilateral relations between Canada and St Kitts and Nevis and measures to further strengthen these relations. Premier Mark Brantley added that “I think the people of Nevis are very familiar with Canada; we have family in Canada, we’ve been to Caribana in Toronto, and more importantly, there’s so much infrastructural development that has been done here through Canada- schools roads, and various developments, and so we have a long, long history.”
Mark Brantley also highlighted that the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau vacationed with his family in January 2016 in Nevis after he assumed office in October 2015.
At the same time, Canadian Ambassador expressed that she was equally excited to visit Nevis and getting to conduct a dialogue with Premier Brantley to discuss future cooperation and matters of bilateral interest.
Also, she stated that she had promised to visit Nevis to Premier Brantley last time when she visited St Kitts and Nevis. Chatterjee exclaimed,” Certainly, the pleasure is all mine. It’s a beautiful, beautiful island, and I look forward to exploring it today.”
Premier Brantley greeted the Canadian Ambassador with a Nevis Naturally gift bag, carrying the indigenous hot sauce and rum as well as a number of memorabilia from Nevis.
