Body of 4th Georgian volunteer slain in Ukraine transferred to Georgia

The body of Davit Gobejishvili, the 4th Georgian volunteer who was slain in combat action in Ukraine, was transferred to Georgia at dawn.

In the morning, family members of the deceased and several citizens gathered at the Tbilisi International Airport to respect Gobejishvili, who was slain on March 26 in Irpin, a town northwest of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.

The Georgian fighter will be laid to rest today at 12:00, in Kashueti Church, from where he will be transferred to Tkibuli in the evening. On Sunday, the slain warrior will be buried at Tkibuli.

So far, four Georgian volunteers have died in Ukraine. On March 24, the bodies of Gia Beriashvili and Davit Ratiani were returned to Georgia. They were slain in a confrontation near Irpin on March 18.

He is the 4th Georgian soldier who was killed in a Russian rocket attack.

The body of Bakha Chikobava, the 3rd Georgian volunteer who died in the conflict, has yet to be sent to Georgia due to the terrible circumstances in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol.

Chikobava was killed in Mariupol on March 19.

According to UN estimates, at least 1,232 people have been killed and 1,935 wounded in Ukraine, with the exact tally expected to be far higher.

As per the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports, the Georgian Embassy in Ukraine had started relevant procedures to fulfill the basic requirements in bringing back the dead bodies of the Georgian volunteers.
