Georgia: The National Agrarian Olympiad aims to promote agrarian education and professions, establish a qualified mechanism for assessing professional knowledge, raise awareness among young people about the agricultural sector, and promote non-formal education in the agrarian sector will be hosted in Georgia.
According to Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Otar Shamugia, the Agro-Olympics will contribute to increase interest in agricultural education, the involvement of more people in agriculture and the development of both agriculture and the agricultural sector in general.
“Participation in the new generation agro-Olympics is especially important for us. Winning the Olympics will be the best incentive for them to do even more for the field, for their own development and advancement. The winners of the Olympiad will undergo an internship at the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture and will be given the opportunity to be employed in the Ministry system,” said Otar Shamugia.
The National Agrarian Olympiad will be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia. The Olympics are organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Austrian Development Cooperation, the Agricultural Development Association (ADA), the USAID Agriculture Program, and the Network of Caucasus Environmental Non-Governmental Organizations (CENN).
The target audience of the Olympics is:
“First of all, the Olympics will allow us to present and encourage people with in-depth knowledge and qualifications in the field of agriculture, and on the other hand, to maximize the promotion of agricultural education among young people,” said the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Representative in Georgia. The Olympics will be held in three stages. In the first stage, the candidates will be registered; In the second stage, registered participants will be tested (remotely, via an online platform) in their pre-selected agricultural fields; In the third stage, the winners will be revealed through testing.
This year, several major changes have been made to the rules of the Olympics:
Within the framework of Agro-Olympics 2022, from each category (farmer, student, specialist and pupil), according to the fields, three winners (I place, II place, III place) will be revealed, who will be awarded certificates and prizes.
