Maka Bochorishvili and Levan Karumidze met with Irish Parliamentary Delegation

Maka Bochorishvili, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration of Georgia, met with Joe McHugh, Chairman of the EU Affairs Committee of the Irish Parliament, and the Irish Parliamentary delegation.

The sides discussed the prospects of deepening parliamentary relations between the two countries in various formats, the importance of Ireland’s support for EU integration, and the European Commission’s opinion on the EU membership application on June 17 and the European Council decision on June 23-24.

Maka Bochorishvili spoke about the agenda of Georgia-EU cooperation and the challenges facing the country. He thanked his Irish counterparts for their strong political support in the European integration process, which was reaffirmed by another resolution adopted by the Irish Parliament on June 14.



The head of the parliamentary delegation Joe McHugh said that Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine posed significant challenges to the idea of ​​a united, free and peaceful Europe and the security architecture, noting that it would do its utmost to keep issues important to Georgia high on the international agenda.

The Irish parliamentarians welcomed the steps taken by Georgia on its path to EU membership, reaffirmed the positive dynamics of the reforms, and reaffirmed Ireland’s unconditional support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Levan Karumidze, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on European Integration, participated in the meeting. 

The Irish parliamentary delegation includes Joe McHugh, Chairman of the EU Affairs Committee of the Irish Parliament, Sean Hogg and Rory O’Mourke.
