Irakli Karseladze: “Renewed Regions” projects are a new life for municipalities

Georgia: The Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Irakli Karseladze, visited the construction works of the projects financed by the “Renewed Regions” program initiated by the Prime Minister of Georgia, together with the Samtskhe-Javakheti State Trustee Besik Amiranashvili and the mayors of the municipality.

“In the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, the works of the first phase of the “renewed regions” project are going on intensively and will soon be completed. This is a new life for municipalities. 

Important works were carried out in Akhaltsikhe. More than 50 buildings are being rehabilitated, including the surrounding infrastructure. Squares are organized, including Central Park.

The works of the first phase are at the completion stage, and the works of the second phase are also intensively continuing. It will be possible to see the full result already in September,” said Irakli Karseladze. 

In the city of Akhaltsikhe, the rehabilitation works of Natenadze Street, adjacent squares and Giorgi Maghishni square are at the stage of completion. In total, the buildings located in the central part of the city will be renovated, and six squares will be rehabilitated. 

The performed works include:

• Replacing the doors and windows of the buildings with new iso profile windows.
• Strengthening the energy efficiency component with thermal insulation.
• Arranging the adjacent pedestrian lane.
• Greening the squares.
• Arranging the irrigation system.
• Installing children’s entertainment attractions and others.

In Adigen, within the framework of the “Renewed Regions” program, the urban renewal works of the city’s central district are nearing completion. In total, 5 buildings and adjacent squares are rehabilitating on Tamar Mefi Street. Along with the renovation of the buildings, the adjacent pedestrian lane is also being improved.

In Aspindza Township, within the framework of the “Renewed Regions” program, the infrastructure surrounding the Aspindza War Memorial and the triangular square were rehabilitated. The project was implemented directly by the municipality with the funding received from the program in the form of a grant.

The minister also inspected the completed building of the new kindergarten for 180 children located on Rustaveli Street in Akhaltsikhe. The Municipal Development Fund built a new, modern kindergarten with the financial support of more than 2.6 million GEL from the European Investment Bank. 

In addition to rooms for children’s recreation, entertainment, dining and other purposes, outdoor spaces were organized in the new garden. At this stage, the process of equipping the kindergarten with the necessary equipment has begun.

In Aspindza township, the Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Infrastructure, with the financing of more than 3.4 million GEL from the state budget, is carrying out complete rehabilitation works of the public school for 600 students. The school, where students had to receive education in difficult conditions, is being rehabilitated according to all standards and regulations. 

Water supply, sewage, fire, heating, electrical supply and ventilation systems, classrooms, sports fields and yard area are being organized. The school building is fully adapted for students with special needs. Rehabilitation works will be completed this year.
