The idea of organizing Nico Firosmani’s exhibitions in Europe in 2022 was discussed during his meeting with the Minister of Culture during his visit to Georgia. In June 2022, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia, Tea Tsulukiani and the First Deputy Director of the National Museum of Georgia, Nika Akhalbedashvili, visited Basel, negotiations were held with Samuel Keller, head of Bayler Foundation and it was decided that in autumn 2023 Firosman’s works would be exhibited in Bayler Foundation; in September 2022 in Denmark Nik A newbie meets the Louisiana museum Director Paul Eric Toyner, after the parties agreed to host Firosman’s work before an exhibition at the Baylor Foundation in spring 2023.
Also, in September 2022, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the National Museum of Georgia, the Baylor Foundation and the Louisiana Museum. The memorandum envisions long-term cooperation in the museum work for restoration, conservation and educational projects.
Important that the Baylor Foundation works with the Louisiana Museum to create a Georgian-English website dedicated to the life and work of Nico Firosman. Also important is that the Louisiana Museum released a catalogue for Nico Firosman’s exhibit, and the Baylor Foundation published an album dedicated to Nico Firrosman’s work.
Notably, the works selected for the exhibition were packaged for transport according to international museum standards, safely shipped and housed in Denmark, Louisiana Museum and then in Switzerland, Bayler Foundation. After being transported to Switzerland, restorers Nana Managadze and Markus Gross checked the condition of the paintings.
The transfer of Pyrosman’s works from Denmark to Switzerland was also unharmed, and they are in the same condition. Company “Kunsttrans” will provide paintings transport, on behalf of which company “Uart” operates in Georgia.
Niko Pirosmani’s works will return to his homeland in February 2024.
