Nodar Bokeria, a member of the Georgian delegation to the New York UNGA meeting, addressed its third committee session. Nodar Bokeria is a representative of the “Youth Agency,” a government organisation of Georgia.

He was selected for a speech in March following the agency’s announcement of the results of a grant competition. During his speech, he touched on the important challenges that the youth is facing today across the world. He also shed light on measures required to address these challenges.

Nodar Bokeria stated, “This moment is not just an opportunity for me to give a speech, but a chance to spread my voice about global problems. As UN Youth representatives, we are primarily responsible for thinking globally and addressing problems across borders. Therefore, today I would like to talk about a critical issue that is spreading around us like a global pandemic – the lack of education.”

“Unprecedented global challenges such as climate change, ongoing bilateral and regional conflicts and growing humanitarian needs are undermining the fundamental pillars of any country’s growth and development today. One particular concern is that these challenges may have negative impacts on future generations around the world, added Nodar Bokeria.

According to him, according to UNICEF reports 260 million children worldwide are out of school and many more lack access to quality education. Because of this countries lose the intellectual resources that can be the biggest hurdle to economic and social progress widening inequality gap between countries.

While speaking about his country, he said “In Georgia we are facing similar challenges especially in mountainous regions. However our educational system has successfully accommodated the needs of students, which ensures that even in those villages where only siblings go to school, special programs have been implemented that help them learn new skills.”

He also drew attention to the problems and challenges faced by young people living in the occupied territories region. According to him, people living in these areas deserve equal protection of rights.
