Georgia: From January to September 2024, the value of nuts exported from Georgia increased by 5.1 million US dollars (11%) compared to the previous year’s analogue period and reached 53.2 million US dollars.
The amount mentioned also includes the current year’s nut harvest. It should be noted that from August 1 to September 30, 2024, the current year’s nut crop exported from Georgia was $19.6 million, which is 35% higher than the previous year.
During this period, Georgian nuts were mainly exported to EU countries: Spain (9.7 million US dollars), Italy (5.4 million US dollars), Germany (3.8 million US dollars), France (3.2 million US dollars), and Poland (2.7 million US dollars).
This year, 89% of the nuts exported are selected nuts (nut heart), and their export price is about 130% more than those of non-selected nuts. Growth in recycled nut exports indicates an increase in production quality and an economic benefit, which means employment opportunities and revenue generated from the processing of primary products.
It should be noted that the growth of nut production and export is a direct result of state-supported programs.
The program of supporting nuts-producing farmers has been implemented for two years. Farmers who own or/and own a garden of at least 0.2 ha and not less than 3 ha receive 500 Gel aid from the state. This year, up to 95 thousand farmers around the country have benefited from the program and received approximately 21,5 million GEL targeted aid. More than 45,000 hectares of nut gardens are registered in the nut cadastre today.
In kindergartens, the fight against Asian thyme is taking place within the framework of the state program. This year, 213,750 ha of the area was treated with thermal fog, 107 601 ha of the area was poisoned with cold closing technology, 7019 pheromone catchers were placed and 153,584 units of “attract and destroy” pheromones.
