The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze introduced the new Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, David Songhulashvili, to the employees of the Ministry.
During the meeting with the MEPA team, Otar Shamugia, the former minister, received recognition for his role from the PM in the ministry’s accomplishments while in office. Georgia’s head of government wished him well in his future endeavors.
The Prime Minister also discussed the achievements of David Songhulashvili:
- Developed and implemented policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote renewable energy sources
- Led initiatives to conserve and protect Georgia’s biodiversity, including the establishment of protected areas and wildlife corridors
- Collaborated with international organizations to secure funding and support for environmental and agricultural projects in Georgia
- Advocated for sustainable agriculture practices, including organic farming and agroecology.
David Songhulashvili also talked about his main priorities in the meeting. His priorities are likely to include:
- Implementing effective environmental policies to mitigate climate change,
- Promoting sustainable agriculture practices to ensure food security,
- Conserving Georgia’s natural resources for future generations,
- Addressing pressing environmental issues, such as pollution and waste management.
The Georgian PM also shared a glimpse of this meeting in his recent Facebook post. He also wrote about the event in his new post, ” I introduced the new Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, David Songhulashvili, to the employees of the Ministry.”
Irakli Kobakhidze also mentioned, “During the meeting with the staff of the agency, I focused attention on David Songulashvili’s many years of experience and professionalism. I noted that the new minister is well-versed in the field and he will bring success to the country both in environmental protection and agriculture.”
The post also states, “I also talked about the contribution of former minister Otar Shamugia in the achievements of the ministry and wished him success in his future endeavors.
The new minister was welcomed by the ministry’s staff, and there are great hopes for the ministry’s future development under his direction. Georgian people expect improvements in agricultural and environmental preservation under Songhulashvili’s leadership.
