PM Kobakhidze attends event on  completion of new substation “Tskaltubo 500”

Tbilisi: Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze attended recent event held  to mark completion of new substation.

He was accompanied by first deputy prime minister, minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili on this occassion along with many other officials and representatives of Government.

The project has been executed by “Georgian State Electricity System”. The project is being considered as big booster for the development of the country’s electricity transmission network.

While addressing attendee, Minister Levan Davitashvili underlined, “When we say that we are building an independent, dignified, European state, which should have its place in the international community, together with many priorities, we also mean maximizing its energy potential, because Georgia really has the resources not only   for internal use but also for export.”

 

In addition the first Deputy Prime Minister noted the Georgian government has an ambitious plan. As per the plan by 2030  we will increase the country’s generated power to 10,000 MGW, which will fully ensure the high pace of economic growth as well as developing new energy plants across country also.

The “Tskaltubo 500” project was implemented with the financial support of the World Bank within the framework of the “Energy Reliability and Financial Health Project”.

The project was supervised by a joint enterprise of foreign companies Decon International GmbH and the project and construction works were carried out by the Turkish company BEST.

Notably about 350 people were employed during the construction of the substation. Construction work started in 2022 and finished in 2024. The total  cost of the project is 19.8 million USD.

According to Levan Davitashvili, “Georgian State Electricity System” is already implementing another project to build a 500 sq.m. electricity transmission line up to 80 km long.

This will connect water pipeline and 500 sq.m of cross substations. According to the First Deputy Prime Minister, these will be very important loops of transmission infrastructure, which will enable the use of energy resources available in Western Georgia for both domestic energy and its export to the Republic of Turkey.
