Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze have inaugurated a new ice arena in Batumi. On this occasion the Prime Minister was accompanied by chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Tornike Rizhvadze.
The PM himself while sharing information about this milestone achievement said that on his social media handles that, “I got acquainted with the work carried out, toured the ice arena and met with athletes. As I stated, a youth winter festival will be held here, which will start tomorrow, at the Ice Palace. This is an important infrastructure for the country as a whole and for Batumi in particular.
Prime Minister also underlined that, “I noted that approximately 450 young people in Batumi are involved in this type of sport and the new hall will give new impetus to children and young people to become even more actively involved in this type of sport.”
It is worth to note that the new ice arena is equipment’s with sports lighting, a scoreboard and sound systems have been installed at the international standard ice arena and the stands are designed for 1,500 spectators. The sports facility will feature conference and choreographic halls, coaches’ and referees’ rooms, locker rooms and bathrooms.
It is also to be noted that, the arena will host the 2025 Winter youth Olympics from February 9, 2025. Starting next year, the complex will be able to host international competitions in figure skating and mass skating, as well as ice and water sports.
Along with the ice arena, the complex will also include a swimming pool, which will begin operating by the end of the year. The total cost of the project is 53,943,280 GEL.
Beside prime minister chairman of the chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Tornike Rizhvadze also addressed that attendee on this occasion. He also encouraged the sportsperson to participate in the sports events.
