Protestor held rally in Tbilisi for re-election

On Monday, November 4 many people organized a protest rally in the capital city of Georgia and demanded an impartial investigation of the election fraud.

Tbilisi: On Monday, November 4 many people organized a protest rally in the capital city of Georgia. The protestor demanded an impartial investigation of allegations related to poll code violations and urged authorities to conduct re-election.

Since the results of the October 26 election of Parliament have been declared, opposition parties under the command of UNM (United National Movement) are demanding an investigation to shed light on the truth.

Besides opposition parties the people of many non-government organisations and civil society organisations have also raised the same demand for an investigation of election results.

Protestors gathered around the Parliament of Georgia in Tbilisi to protest the result of election held in October 26. The United National Movement also has got support from other organisations, which includes a coalition for change and a strong Georgia group as well.

On this occasion a representative of the Coalition for Change, Nika Melia while blaming the ruling party for election fraud stated, ” We are here to raise the issues of the general public. We are for protecting the democratic values enshrined in the Constitution of Georgia. Our protest will continue until a new election is announced.”

Melia also called for daily gatherings to demand new elections. They have planned a protest at Tbilisi Sports Palace on November 5 as well and urged participants to gather there.  It is worth noting that, as the number of protestors was huge, authorities took precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incident.

Several officials from police and law enforcement agencies were present outside the parliament with medical teams and ambulances.Police have closed all doors of entry into the Parliament as a preventative measure. The local media have also confirmed this development.

As per the election result of the October 26th election the ruling party of Georgia the Georgian Dream party got a total of 53.9 percent of the vote. On the other hand Coalition for Change secured second position with an 11 percent vote share.

Similarly, Unity to Save Georgia captured third place with 10.1 percent, whereas Strong Georgia and Gakharia for Georgia received  8.8 percent and  7.7 percent vote shares respectively.
