As March 22 is celebrated as the International Day of Water Protection across the globe. So under the framework of the celebration of the International Day of Water Resources Protection the representatives of the Lower Kartli Regional Service of Georgia Melioration Ltd and pupils of Daba Sioni Public School visited the Sioni reservoir.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the above-mentioned reservoir provides water supply to upper and lower Samgori irrigation systems. This is the also a important source to fulfil the irrigation water requirement of these areas as well.
During the visit to Sioni reservoir the Representatives of the regional service gave the students a tour of the hydrotechnical rubble on the reservoir. At the same time the students also were introduced to the history of the reservoir and working specifics.
The Schoolchildren learned about modern irrigation methods which promotes rational consumption of water resources and is particularly important for water conservation.
It is worth to mention that since the 1993 by the decision of the UN (United Nation General Assembly) International Water Day has been celebrated worldwide. The International Water Day celebration aims to draw public awareness on water resource management and rational use and raise environmental awareness.
The representative of the region while sharing information in this regard said that the role of young people along with the school children is very important for the water conservation.
Children were also given the lecture on how to address the growing water crisis across the globe with connected and joint initiatives. On the other hand, the school children were also have been provided the information about the various measures that can be initiated against the water paucity at global level.
Children at the end of the event said that this was a productive visit and they have come to know may new things on how to address the water shortage problem with the involvement of all the stakeholders.
