First Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports of Georgia Shalva Gogoladze met with members of the Georgian Judo Team under 23 years old, coaches, medical groups, and representatives of the Georgian Judo Federation.
The First Deputy Minister congratulated the athletes on their success at the European Championship held in Poland and wished them victory in future competitions.
14 athletes were competing in the European Championship on behalf of Georgia. The Georgian team won three gold medals, one silver and one bronze in individual competition at the European Championship, and one gold medal in mixed team competition. Giorgi Terashvili (-73 kg), Kote Kapanadze (-81 kg), and Irakli Demetrashvili (+100 kg) won gold medals, Nino Loladze (-57 kg) won the silver medal, Tengo Zirakashvili (-66 kg) won the bronze medal.
Georgia’s under 23 judo team defeated the Ukrainian team 4:3 in the final in the mixed team competition and became the European champion. It is noteworthy that the judo team under 23 years old won three gold medals at the European Championship for the first time in history. The Georgian team finished the continent’s championship in first place in the overall team ranking.
Judoists signed kimono, which will be given to the Georgian Sports Museum to celebrate their success at the European Championship. We would like to remind you that the Ministry of Sports was founded on a tradition, according to which Georgian athletes will give autographs of their sports equipment and inventory to the Sports Museum after achieving success in important international competitions.
European U23 Judo Championships
The European U23 Judo Championships are annual judo competitions organized by the European Judo Union for European judoka aged 23 and younger. The last contest took place in Pila, Poland From November 15 to November 17, 2024. The next contest will be held in Chisinau, Moldova.
