The capital city of Georgia, Tbilisi is all set to get a new eco-educational and recreational project at the Tbilisi national park as well as at Sabaduri and Zedazeni district.
Minister of Environment and Agriculture Otar Shamugia inspected the new recreational and eco-educational spaces along with many other officials.
On this occasion Anna Lieberg Head of Development Cooperation of the Swedish Embassy in Georgia, Deputy Head of Mission Eric Iles and Head of the Environmental Program of the Swedish Embassy to Georgia Khatuna Zaldastanishvili were also inspected these new recreational spaces as well.
Otar Shamugia stated that “We have established new protected areas every year. Currently work is under progress on the expansion of the existing protected area in Racha along with the creation of new protected areas in Samegrelo and Upper Svaneti.This unique nature project is located close to the city and it has a lot of visitors. This year similar infrastructure works are planned at around ten locations”.
Similarly the Swedish Ambassador to Georgia Anna Lieberg noted at the occasion that the Swedish side through the project “Save Nature-Georgia” actively supports the improvement of the sustainable management of natural resources in Georgia and the protection/restoration of biodiversity for which a number of important activities are being carried out.
It is noteworthy that in the framework of the project “Save Nature-Georgia” Sweden is considering the addition of a component that will consider financial support for ecotourism and eco-education of the National Park of Tbilisi.
Notbaly under the framework of the event, representatives of the relevant agencies of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, diplomatic corps and donor organizations inspected the construction works of the Visitor Center of Tbilisi National Park.
These areas wil also have recreational parks, children’s entertainment areas, amphitheater, picnic areas for hiking enthusiasts and more planned to be arranged. Most of the works will be completed at the start of the active tourist season as well.
