Georgia: The State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality, Tea Akhvlediani recently visited sports fields in Mereti and Lower Nzhev and distributed symbolic gifts to children and met the local people. He was accompanied by the Ambassador of Emergency and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Georgia, Zhou Xien.
The football pitches in the sports fields have been equipped with modern standards to meet the needs of the local population, in order to improve sports infrastructure in villages. The Office of the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality also shared details and glimpses from the visits on their official Facebook account on 25 April, 2025 (Friday).
During the visit, the delegates heard detailed information from local government representatives about the construction of sports fields. These fields have been co-financed by the Chinese Embassy and the local budget of Gori Municipality, and supported by the Minister of State’s Office.
Significance of this infrastructural development
Minister Tea Akhvlediani said during the event that the special concern of the Georgian government is to support the population living along the dividing lines, including socio-economic, infrastructural, sporting or educational events. He further added that the village of Mereti of Gori municipality is a place where sports infrastructure has been set up to meet the needs of the local people.Â

In addition to this, Minister Akhvlediani also thanked the Chinese Ambassador to Georgia and the local government, including the support of the Minister of State, on whose joint efforts they were able to facilitate the construction of these sports fields on site, enabling local youth to engage and develop.Â
Ambassador Zhou Xien explains the beginning of the project
Furthermore, Ambassador Zhou Xien stated that the discussion for this infrastructural project started a year ago with Minister Tea Akhvlediani as China has always supported Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.Â
Zhou Xien, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Georgia further added that together with the minister of Georgia, they discussed this issue to which Minister Akhvlediani and his team recommended this project. He said that they looked for the budget and is glad that they finally implemented it as it is not only beneficial for children but also shows the friendship between the two countries.
