The working group of the Permanent Parliamentary Council of Open Government, under the leadership of the member of the Council, Khatia Tsilosani, held an external working meeting on the topic “Parliamentary supervision during the crisis and beyond”.
Khatia Tsilosani and the Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Georgia, Nick Beresford, addressed the attendees with a welcome speech.
Presentations were made at the meeting by international and local experts.
Ketevan Kvinikadze, head of the parliamentary staff, spoke about the business continuity policy of the Parliament.
“Under the state of emergency, on the one hand, the introduction of appropriate procedures for strengthening the supervisory activities of the Parliament and, on the other hand, ensuring the continuity of the activities of the Parliament’s apparatus will allow us to increase the role of the Parliament in the process of eliminating the threats and its activities will go as smoothly as possible, effective supervision of the government’s activities will be carried out, and parliamentary activities will be ensured Transparency and accountability using digital democracy tools. Recommendations in this direction will be developed by the end of the year; thus, we will also contribute to the full implementation of the Action Plan of the Open Parliament”, Khatia Tsilosani said at the end of the meeting.
The representatives of the parliamentary majority and the parliamentary opposition, employees of the parliamentary apparatus and organizations that are members of the advisory group of the Council took part in the meeting: the United Nations Development Program, the Institute for the Development of Freedom of Information, the Association of Young Lawyers of Georgia, International Transparency – Georgia, the German Society for International Cooperation.
The meeting was held with the support of the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
