Hilaire hailed his journey as a journalist, writing, “In a career that spanned just over sixty years, starting as a young news reporter with the Voice in May 1962, and rising to become Managing Editor of two newspapers, the Voice and the Mirror, an international news correspondent, author and historian, journalism lecturer and Consultant, Guy Ellis was excellence itself.”

Praising Ellis, Hilaire stated that Ellis was the personification of true journalism. Hilaire wrote: “He exemplified the qualities of a true journalist- balanced, independent thought, analytical integrity and accurate reporting. He was a skilful editor and writer who always maintained the highest standards of his trade.

In this era of fake news and information technology that has created instant journalists, the qualities of Guy Ellis will be really missed. He is an example to be emulated by young aspiring St. Lucian journalists.”
