The United States President Joe Biden has rolled out a $5.8 trillion budget proposal for the fiscal year 2023 on Monday, March 28, including an increase in Ukraine funding, global health security, and anti-China and anti-Russia efforts.
In its draft budget for 2023, the US Department of State has allocated $88 million to Georgia, which was published on Monday.
The assistance will boost Georgia’s democratic and economic development, as well as its Euro-Atlantic integration and strengthening resilience to counter Kremlin influence, according to the wording of the Congressional Budget Justification for Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs.
According to the document, “The money will be used to strengthen institutional checks and balances and the rule of law, support efforts led by Georgian civil society to advance democratic and economic development; improve access to independent, reliable, and balanced media; promote political pluralism; and support reconciliation efforts, including in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.”
In addition, the money provided to Georgia will be used for increasing energy security and advancing sustainable energy, as well as to promote reforms that will boost economic development and diversification, advance digitization, and improve cybersecurity and resilience.
The funds will also be used to boost private-sector competitiveness and agricultural productivity, as well as entice foreign investment, according to the State Department.
