Georgia: Mayor Kakha Kaladze stated on Wednesday that Tbilisi City Hall is launching a rehabilitation of Melikishvili Avenue, one of Georgia’s key transportation arteries, which will entail the installation of new infrastructure on the street.
Set to commence next month and run through November, the renovation works on the road connecting Chavchavadze and Rustaveli avenues will lead to it being closed for traffic.
Kaladze spoke about the Avenue’s “worst conditions” during a Tbilisi City Assembly meeting earlier today, highlighting underground communications and the four-lane street’s road surface, which “cannot withstand criticism” due to years of neglect.
Melikishvili Avenue will link to the newly renovated Chavchavadze Avenue, with the whole area finally being fully renovated,” the Mayor said.
As part of the initiative, authorities of cities plan to complete the following works:
- Full replacement of underground communication network
- Setting up of drainage system
- Moving overhead cables underground
- Installation of new lighting posts with modern LED lights
- Laying of new road surface
- Setting up of a bus lane, new bus stops and bicycle lanes
- Installation of underground waste containers
All infrastructure built on the Avenue, according to Kaladze, would be accessible to individuals with impairments.
The Georgian government is intensively working to enhance its existing infrastructure so that the ordinary people of Georgia can enjoy.
