Russia-Ukraine War: The Ukrainian Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major Kyrylo Budanov, claimed that Russian officials are actively discussing the removal of Vladimir Putin from power as the President of Russia. According to him, the Russian President won’t last until the end of the Ukraine war, and discussions are already being made regarding his replacement.
“It’s unlikely that Putin would survive it. And currently, there are active discussions happening in Russia about who’d be there to replace him,” Major general Kyrylo Budanov said.
The remarks from the Ukrainian official came amid Ukraine’s counteroffensives to recapture the strategic port city of Kherson that Russia has taken under its control since the beginning of the invasion.
The Ukrainian official noted that attempts are being made by Ukraine to recapture Kherson by the end of November as well as the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia had annexed, back in 2014. “Ukraine could potentially consider being an endgame to the war”, he further said.
Following the Russian army’s major defeats in September, President Putin has already called up thousands of reservists while announcing the annexure of the occupied territory and continuously terrorizing with threats to deploy nuclear weapons against Ukraine.
The latest missile attacks and drone strikes have destructed the major energy facilities in Ukraine, knocking out more than 40 per cent of power generating capacity, causing the country to resort to energy rationing and blackouts across the country. Moreover, circumstances are expected to get worse as the winters approach.
