Georgia:Â The Ministry of Culture congratulates Vakhtang Kakhidze, the famous Georgian composer, conductor, and pianist, on his birthday.
Vakhtang Kakhidze’s professional education is connected with the orchestra-conducting department of Tbilisi II Music School and the Composer Faculty of Moscow Conservatory. Its leaders were prominent composers Nikoloz Sidelnikov and Edison Denisov.
Since 1988, under the guidance of his father and prominent conductor Jansug Kakhidze, Vakhtang Kakhidze has mastered the art of conducting. He made his debut as a conductor at the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theater, presenting his ballet “Apronents.” It is worth noting that he has been the principal conductor of the Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra since 2002.
Vakhtang Kakhidze collaborated and cooperated with several famous musicians worldwide. The conductor also has a working relationship with the Symphony Orchestras of Prague, Kyiv, and Beijing; with the chamber orchestras “Camera Baltica”, “Moscow Soloists”, and the Israeli Chamber Orchestra; with the choir and orchestra of the Cathedral of Holy Trinity of Paris; with the German ensemble “Del Arte”, and others.
Vakhtang Kakhidze has created the opera “Barbale” (musical paraphrase v. According to Dolidze’s opera “Keto and Kote”, J. Together with Kakhidze), musical “Shelter of love”, ballet “Amordzalebi”; “Sheherezade” – music for ballet staging.Â
From instrumental music: piano concerto and “Bruderschaft” for alto, piano and string orchestra, string quartet. From the vocal-instrumental works: “Psalm” for three flutes and tenor, cantata “Chamomile of Hope” for mezzo-soprano, tenor, baritone and chamber orchestra, “Reflections” for men’s octet and acoustic guitar, “Hallelujah” for organ, cello and vocal, jazz cantata for mixed choir and jazz instruments, a trilogy dedicated to the 2000th anniversary of the birth of Christ, For boy bands and brass band, “2000-Milenium” soprano, For tenor, mixed choir and symphony orchestra.

He has composed music for more than 50 performances, including “Beautiful Georgian Woman” (Rustaveli Theater), “Savane of Love” (V. Musical Comedy Theater named after Abashidze), “Khanuma” (Vake’s Basement), and others. He is also the author of many songs and jazz compositions.
Vakhtang Kakhidze’s recognition as a more important contemporary artist is another proof of the composer’s “Requiem,” which was performed last year with the support of the Georgian government in Belgium and its neighbouring countries within the festival dedicated to Georgian culture, “Europe-Georgia.” The celebration was held successfully in the concert hall named after Queen Elizabeth in Antwerp, Belgium.Â
It is worth noting that the “Requiem”, which the composer dedicated to his parents, was written for a boy soloist, a women’s quartet, a boy’s sextet, a symphony orchestra, and a mixed ensemble. The work was performed for the first time in Europe and received great praise from the audience.
Vakhtang Kakhidze has been the artistic director of the Tbilisi Music and Cultural Center, named after Jansug Kakhidze, since 2002. He is also the founder and artistic director of the international festivals “Autumn Tbilisi” and “Jansug Kakhidze International Music Festival”.
Vakhtang Kakhidze became the first prize winner of the Soviet Union’s Young Composers Competition in 1981 and has received the Order of Honor (2000 years), Rustaveli Award (2010 year), Zakaria Paliashvili Award (2015 year), the Prize of Georgian Film Academy “NATO” (1997 year), and Tbilisi City Hall’s special prize “Spring”.
