Georgia: A three-month introductory course, “Sign Language in Customer Service,” has started at the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia’s Academy of the Ministry for representatives of various departments, with the involvement of the Union of the Deaf of Georgia.”
The training course, part of the EU-funded project “Promoting justice system reform in Georgia,” was inaugurated by the Deputy Head of the Georgian Deaf Union, Amiran Batatunashvili, and the President of the Union of the Deaf. Their welcome speeches highlighted the Ministry’s key role in this reform and the importance of strengthening capabilities in sign language.
The aim of this training, specifically designed for employees in the service sector, is to equip them with the necessary skills to provide effective service and communication with customers who have hearing and speech difficulties. This training will enable them to serve such customers at a basic level, thereby enhancing their professional capabilities.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs remains unchangeable in its commitment to improving services for persons with disabilities. It is dedicated to creating an inclusive and equal environment and continues to actively implement measures aimed at upgrading the qualification of law enforcers on the above-mentioned topics. Union of the Deaf of Georgia
The “Georgian Society of the Deaf and Dumb,” or Georgian Deaf Union, was created in 1926 by decree of the Government of Georgia as a public association of citizens. On December 22, 2000, the general meeting (meeting) of the society’s members made relevant changes in the objectives and tasks of the society’s activities, and the society’s name was changed to “Union of the Deaf of Georgia.”
