Georgia: In response to a threat of a possible attack at the Paris XXXIII Olympic Games, the French government has tightened security measures ahead of the opening ceremony of the four-year major competition.
France is preparing to welcome 15 million guests, delegations from 206 countries, including Georgia, and 10,500 athletes for the Olympic Games.
A large military camp has been organized to house security forces and soldiers for the Olympics, where more than 35,000 security personnel will work during the competition.
The country’s interior minister Gerald Darmanen expects several threats to games, including from the Islamic State and other Islamic groups, aggressive eco-activists, and radical right-wing extremists, as well as drawing attention to cyber attacks coming from Russia.
French police have already been notified of several terrorist threats related to games.
Special attention will be paid to the security of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, which, for the first time in history, will be held not at the stadium but in the center of Paris, on the Seine River, which will include a large space and give broad access to terrorists. The organizers reduced the audience from 600k to 300k for safety along River Sena.
It should be noted that Paris airspace and many metro stations and roads around sports facilities will be closed on the opening night of the games. Guests and residents of Paris along the Seine River can only pass the checkpoints with a QR code.
National security officials are actively monitoring about 10,000 people on the list of possible terrorists, as well as targeting them to rent apartments with Airbnb.
It is noteworthy that French President Emmanuel Macron referred to the possible postponement of the Games’ opening ceremony to the Stade de France about two months ago. This is in case the danger level becomes more severe. In connection with this, the French government said a few days ago that the ceremony would be held in Sena, according to the initial plan.
