A scientific delegation from Michigan State University visited the Jighaura base of Georgia. The delegation was led by Andy Fless, an agro-researcher and viticulturist.
The visit of the scientific delegation of Michigan State University led by researcher and viticulturist Andy Fless aimed to discuss mutual cooperation in the fields of grape production and winemaking. The delegation members also visited the base of perennial crops of Jigaura of the Scientific Research Center of Agriculture.
On this occasion Levan Ujmajuridze who is the director of the Agricultural Scientific Research Center Georgia showed the guests the collection of Georgian grape varieties grown at the Jigaura demonstration base and introduced the ongoing scientific projects at the center. At the meeting held with the members of the delegation the conversation between both sides touched on the possibilities of deepening and expanding relations in the field of viticulture and winemaking.
The director of the center Levan Ujmajuridze speaking on this occasion added “With the university delegation visit from Michigan we discussed the format of cooperation in the direction of viticulture and winemaking, future and joint scientific programs.”
He also said “We have also discussed the other developments in the field of viticulture and winemaking. Winemaking and viticulture ( Cultivation of Grapes for wine making) are Georgia’s priorities and they are closely related to employment. We hope that the American side will be actively involved in the implementation of joint scientific projects.”
The parties during the wide discussion further agreed that in the near future joint projects of scientific development of viticulture and winemaking between Michigan and Georgia will be implemented which will also provide the huge job opportunities to youth concerned as well. For this purpose the Georgian delegation will be invited to Michigan State University for sharing the experience .
At the end of the visit the guests together with the head of the scientific research service of viticulture and winemaking of the same center, David Chichua tasted the wines produced at the base from rare Georgian grape varieties. Both sides also expressed hopes that more such information meetings will be held in the future as well.
