Georgia’s minister Irine Tsakadze attends Int. Conference on Children rights

Tbilisi: Irine Tsakadze, the Deputy Minister of IDPs from Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Protection of Georgia participated in the international conference to end violence against children in Colombia.

The conference discussed several measures to end this problem and safe interests of children.Minister Irine Tsakadze gave a speech at the panel discussion on this occasion. The conference’s main participants discussed the reforms implemented in different countries to end violence against children.

Georgia’s deputy minister, Irine Tsakadze also drew attention to the successes achieved in protecting children’s rights and noted that the country’s existing legal norms are focused on preventing child abandonment and providing family support services.

At the same time, he explained how to address violence against children, the Government of Georgia has approved several procedures that facilitate coordinated work between agencies.

As per him every country must have a 24-hour emergency response mechanism for quick response to cases of violence against minors, as well as protection mechanisms for children living and working on the street.

Notably in  Georgia since 2022, a psychological-social service center has been operating in the care agency. Moreover, deinstitutionalization of institutions and development of alternative forms of care for children’s victims of violence have been the priority direction of the state for years,” said Irine Tsakadze.

It is worth noting that in his speech, the Deputy Minister spoke about the state’s visions and plans to ensure the end of violence against children in Georgia. Similarly, within the framework of the conference.

Irine Tsakadze also took part in thematic meetings and other panel discussions, where representatives of different countries discussed their own experiences, strategies for ending violence against children and future plans.

The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Colombia (residence in Brazil) Zurab Mchedlishvili, also attended the conference. The government of the Republic of Colombia organized the first global conference of ministers in Bogota.

The event was held to share experiences among the countries of the world, stop violence against children, renew state obligations, involve children and adolescents in the mentioned issues and finally end violence against childrens.

Sweden, the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Violence against Children supported the conference.
