Georgia: The State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality Tea Akhvlediani held a meeting with Gwi Yop Son, the UN Regional Director in Europe and Central Asia, and thanked the UN Directorate for its strong support on April 29, 2025, Tuesday.

According to the note shared by the Office of the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality, it should be noted that the Minister of State expressed her warm gratitude towards the UN Regional Directorate for its strong support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity at the internationally recognized borders, as well as for the UN’s contribution to the peaceful resolution of the conflict, including efforts to restore humanitarian and trust in the occupied region of Abkhazia.
The Minister of State reviewed the difficult situation in the occupied regions of Georgia in terms of security, humanitarian, and human rights. In this context, Tea Akhvlediani stressed the need for continued efforts by international partners, including the UN, to protect the fundamental rights of people affected by the conflict, and to ensure the immediate release of illegally detained citizens of Georgia from humanitarian slaughter.
The Minister of State introduced the guest to the policy of reconciliation and engagement, including the progress of implementation of the Step for Better Future Peace Initiative, achievements, and plans, aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of the population affected by the conflict and rebuilding cooperation and trust based on common interests among artificially divided societies Aiming to deepen the fog.
It should be noted that the UN Regional Director expressed readiness for further cooperation with the Minister of State.
