CGuria, Georgia: CENN hosted the first open cafes of women living in rural areas with the support of the European Union and partner organizations. These meetings are held in partnership with the Local Development Group of Kedi, the Union of Young Teachers and the Institute of Democracy.
The primary goal of these cafes is to raise awareness of women living in remote and rural areas. Another goal is to promote improvement of their social and living conditions.
Notably, the meetings of women living in rural areas were also held in all three municipalities of Guria – Ozurgeti, Chokhatauri and Lanchkhuti by CENN. These gatherings are part of the framework of the EU-funded project “Green Guria”. Importantly, the very first meeting by these women was devoted to reproductive health.
In addition, the Ozurgeti Local Development Group shared details and glimpses from the first meeting of the women from rural development on their official Facebook account on April 30, 2025 (Wednesday).
Moreover, they regularly post updates regarding the project details and meetings on their Facebook account. The aim is to keep transparency between the project and the civilians.
Green Guria Project
The Green Guria project supports local democracy and rural development for inclusive and sustainable green growth. This initiative is being implemented with financial support of the European Union within the framework of the European Neighborhood Programme. This programme was established to support Rural and Agricultural Development.Â
Furthermore, local action groups were formed in the Ozurgeti, Chokhatauri, and Lanchkhuti municipalities in 2023 as part of the project. The main objective of this project is to reduce poverty, improve economic, social, and living conditions of vulnerable communities of Guria.
This goal can be achieved through civic engagement, inclusive rural development, and green growth. In addition, a strategy and marketing plan was developed to promote Guria as an attractive tourist destination. This is possible by strengthening the region’s tourism potential.
Notably, these meetings include discussions on funded projects and their directions, marketing and communication strategy, and plans for Guria.
