Tbilisi, Georgia: The new football center of the Georgian Football Federation “Avaza,” was opened in Dighomi Massive on Thursday, August 21, 2025. The Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Minister of Sport Shalva Gogoladze, and President of the Football Federation Levan Kobiashvili attended the event.
During his speech, the mayor of the capital Kakha Kaladze thanked the central government and the prime minister for their support. He also thanked the leadership of the Football Federation and every employee of the agency.
He stated, “I am happy that another infrastructure project has been added to our capital city. Several years ago, we promised the public that this would be one of the best sports complexes. The most important thing is that we have actually changed the harmful attitude that was before 2012 towards sports, Georgian football, and recreational spaces. We have a totally different attitude today. We’re not just creating new projects; we’re restoring years-old sports and recreation areas, because it’s all about the people living in this city.”
“I am sure that this particular football field will raise many stars, such as Levan Kobiashvili, Giorgi Kinkladze, Arveladze, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and many others. This is another good example of how we can create a suitable infrastructure for sport by partnering with FIFA and UEFA, using the key programmes. Believe me, in the coming years, we will implement many more important projects like this, – said the mayor of Tbilisi.
Tbilisi City Hall returned this territory, which existed in private property, to the municipality and in 2022 handed over to the Football Federation with the responsibility of arranging football infrastructure.
Standard and mini fields with tribunes and lights were set up on the territory of the complex. Also, an administrative building with dressing rooms was built. Local children’s soccer schools and girls’ teams will be able to use the new infrastructure for free.
The project of the Georgian Football Federation, FIFA’s program FORWARD, and UEFA’s program Hattrick was funded.
The event was attended by Willie Sanioli, the coach of the Georgian national football team, representatives of FIFA and UEFA, as well as veteran footballers.
