Georgia: The Executive Director of Sakstat Gogita Todradze is participating in the European Conference of Statisticians (CES) Bureau session, which will be held on October 15-16, 2025. It is being held in Geneva, at the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission (UNECE).
The Bureau of the European Conference of Statistics represents its governing body. It is a platform where the most important decisions in the field of official statistics will be made. The bureau’s main functions are to review and approve the conference work plan, determine strategic directions for the development of official statistics, coordinate international statistical cooperation, establish the mandates of experts and working groups, and develop new statistical standards and recommendations.
Various topical issues in the field of official statistics are discussed at the current meeting of the Bureau. The meeting presented issues such as: methodology of measuring emigration, statistics on aging, measuring poverty and inequality, consumer price indices, national accounts, use of alternative data sources, and strategic directions of the Statistical Service. Sustainable development goals, issues related to data misuse and disinformation, and issues related to the preparation for the 2026 plenary session will also be discussed.
Gogita Todradze was elected as a member of the Bureau in June this year, for a 2-year term. The newly elected bureau is led by Canada’s chief statistician, whose members, along with Todradze, are heads of statistical services for Ireland, Estonia, Slovenia, Albania, Mexico, and Australia.
They participate in the work of the bureau as permanent observers:
* Director of the United Nations Statistical Service (UNSD)
* Director of the Statistical Service of the United Nations Economic Commission (UNECE)
* Eurostate General Director
* Chief Statistician of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)
* Chief Statistician of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)
* Chief statistician of the World Bank.
By actively participating in the work of the bureau, Georgia is involved in shaping international statistical policy and standards, which provides the country with a unique opportunity to have a significant impact on the development of the statistical systems in Europe and Asia.
