Georgia: The exhibition “St. Nino – Educator of Georgia” was opened in the National Archive Exhibition Pavilion, dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as the state religion in Georgia in the fourth century.
The event was opened by Georgian Minister of Justice Paata Salia and National Archive General Director Teona Iashvili.
The exhibition presents photos taken in the expeditions of the National Archive both in Georgia (Tbilisi, Tsalenjikha, Sepfieti, Bochorma, Vardzia, Faravan Lake, Bodbe, Shiomghvime, Gelati, Ujarma, Mtskheta, Satkhe), as well as abroad (Azerbaijan (desert), Turkey (Anisi)) related to the arrival of Saint Nino in Georgia; manuscripts related to Georgian behavior (Gulans,) preserved in the National Archive Collection of historical books), historical documents (on the name of St. Nino Stamps donated for Bodbi Monastery) and photo material.
The frescoes taken during the expeditions XI-XVII, and the manuscripts and historical documents date back to the XVI-XVIII centuries.
The purpose of the exhibition is to present to the general public the unique visual heritage and archival documents that show the history of Christianity in Georgia; to showcase the great significance of this epoch event in the spiritual, cultural, and state life of the Georgian nation.
Within the event, there is also a brochure dedicated to Saint Nino. In addition, the National Archives is working on a documentary about St. Nino, which will be offered to the public throughout the year.
The 11th International Scientific Conference of the National Archives “Archaeology, Source Science – Trends and Challenges” will be dedicated to the same topic, where Georgian and foreign scientists will present the latest scientific studies on the topic of Christianity in Georgia.
The conference, which has been held every year since 2016, promotes new scientific research, close union between Georgian and foreign science, and strengthening scientific cooperation of the National Archives.
Deputies of the Minister of Justice attended the opening of the exhibition, representatives of the Patriarchate of Georgia, the Chairman of the Government of Abkhazia Giorgi Jincharadze, the Minister of Justice Aliona Chkhotua, and representatives of cultural and educational institutions.
