Employees of the Western Regional Authority of the Environmental Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture revealed the fact of poaching in Kharagauli municipality.
The Environmental Supervision Department of Georgia shared the details of the violations in Khobi Municipality on its official Facebook Page on June 24, 2026, Wednesday. Additionally, the Department provided a glimpse of the fishing equipment used in the town to engage in illegal fishing.
In the village of Vardzia, a citizen was illegally fishing on the Borimela River by using an electric weapon made from a shell. Fishing with electric weapons is a criminal offense, for which the materials were sent to the appropriate authorities for further response.
Electric weapons threaten both the environment and the lives and health of people. Manufacturing, purchasing, storing, carrying, transferring, and confiscating electric weapons is punishable by law.
According to Article 300 of the Criminal Code, illegal fishing with electric weapons or other prohibited weapons is punishable by public labor for 320 to 400 hours and/or imprisonment for 2 to 4 years.
Fighting against poaching is one of the main priorities for the Department of Environmental Supervision. Crews across the country carry out 24-hour continuous patrols to prevent, detect, and investigate facts about illegal fishing and other environmental violations promptly.
