A scientific-practical round table was held, organized by NATO and the EU Study-Research Center of the Caucasus International University (CIU) on April 28, to celebrate Europe Day. The event was attended by students of the Bachelor’s Program in International Relations, who discussed actual issues of European integration within academic practice.
The practical activity was led by the Head of the Center, Associate Professor Giorgi Pareshishvili. The session was also attended by the head of the Bachelor’s Program in International Relations, Associate Professor Alika Guchua.
The working meeting was loaded with thematic presentations that covered both the historical transformation of Eurointegration and modern geopolitical challenges.
During the round table discussion, the following issues were discussed:
- Disinformation and anti-western rhetoric: reporters – Leli Beselia, Giorgi Khuroshvili, and Imeda Sulaberidze – reviewed the work “10 myths about the EU”. They focused attention on the impact of anti-Western narratives and the strategic importance of combating disinformation.
- Institutional development and candidate status: Nodar Kopadze, Nini Mikava, and Guga Kalabegashvili analyzed Georgia’s compliance with the Copenhagen criteria and the political context of the country’s acceptance of candidate status in 2023.
- Evolution of Eastern Partnership: Nano Gelantia, Ketevan Imnaishvili, and Lizi Kucuashvili presented the dynamics of regional cooperation, discussing in detail the role of ENP, ENPI, ENI, and EAP instruments in the development of partner countries.
- The history of European law and integration: Khatia Katamadze, Nur Hamami, and Nino Ghaghanidze talked about the path of European integration – from the fundamental principles of the Treaty of Rome to the Treaty of Lisbon, which is the legal foundation of the modern European Union.
- Economic Dimension – DCFTA: In the concluding part of the session, Nazibrola Pataraia, Natia Silagadze, and Mariam Chogovadze discussed the importance of deep and comprehensive free trade space (DCFTA). The reporters drew parallels between economic reality and current political presence.
The activity of the NATO and the EU Study and Research Center aims to empower future specialists in the profession and raise awareness of European values.
