Georgia: Special investigation service arrests one for cybercrime

The special investigation service of Georgia arrested a 27-year-old man for sharing personal photos of the victim on social media. He sends these personal pictures through a telegram channel.

The accused was in relation with the victim girl. As per the information shared by the service employee after receiving the information  the investigation was conducted to extract the truth. 

The investigation found that the accused who was born in 1996 and living in Tbilisi had an intimate relationship with the victim girl born in 2001. The accused used to meet her in a rented apartment in Tbilisi. During the meeting  the accused had taken intimate photos with the man’s phone.

Later on in the month of  March 2024  after separating from the accused the victim posted a photo with her friend on Instagram. This led the accused to call her out of jealousy and verbally abuse her. Also  on the same day  it became known to the victim that her intimate photos which she demanded the accused to delete were shared on the social network Telegram groups.

After the treatment of the victim womanv the special investigation service conducted investigation operations. During the private search of the accused on his mobile phone intimate content of the victim woman was found and removed, including the 2500-user social network Telegram group, where the accused shared intimate photos of his private life with the woman.

The defendant is arrested for the offense mentioned under Article 157 Part II of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The offense includes imprisonment of 5 to 8 years if the accused is found guilty.

 Law enforcement agencies are taking many measures to counter the threat but even then the anti-social element misuses cyberspace for the wrong acts. The official warned social media users to be careful while using social media platforms for the safety of personal information.
