Georgia: Agriculture Ministry discusses Sustainable Forest Management in Adjara

Tbilisi: The Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, Kakha Kakabadze, attended the presentation of the project "Sustainable Forest Management in Adjara. The meeting was held by the Chairman of the Adjara Government Tornike Rijvadze; Chairman of the Supreme Council Davit Gabaidze; Head of the National Forestry Agency, Kakha Tsertsvadze; Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Director of the Regional Office of the Reconstruction Credit Bank (KfW) in South Caucasus, WWF Caucasus Program Regional Director of the Office.

Tbilisi: The Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, Kakha Kakabadze, attended the presentation of the project “Sustainable Forest Management in Adjara. The meeting was held by the Chairman of the Adjara Government Tornike Rijvadze; Chairman of the Supreme Council Davit Gabaidze; Head of the National Forestry Agency, Kakha Tsertsvadze; Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Director of the Regional Office of the Reconstruction Credit Bank (KfW) in South Caucasus, WWF Caucasus Program Regional Director of the Office.

“Working together with the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Bank for Development and Reconstruction, we are beginning to implement an important project, within the framework of the institutional strengthening of the Adjara Forest Agency, as well as the restoration and conservation of forest resources and the entire forest fund,” said Chairman of the Government of Adjara Tornike Rijvadze. 

The project “Sustainable Forest Management in Adjara” will help transform the Adjara Forestry Agency into a complete sustainable forest management body that will implement the full cycle of sustainable forest management, including forest maintenance and restoration, implementation of conservation measures, strengthening forest resilience to climate change, forest use and ensuring the population with a stable environment.

“Sustainable forest management in Adjara” is an important project not only for the region but for the sustainable development of the country, which will promote sustainable management of Adjara forests, which is one of the most important parts of Georgia’s forest reform”, – said the Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Kakha Kakabadze.

 The project is financed by the Federal Republic of Germany and is implemented through the Reconstruction Credit Bank (KfW). The budget of this project is 7,492,000 euros. The project implementation consultant is a consortium that combines the World Environmental Protection Fund (WWF) Caucasus Program Office, WWF Germany and the organization HessenForst.
