Georgia, February 2, 2024:Â On the initiative of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture and the Scientific and Research Center of Species Conservation “Nakresi”, funded by the Endangered Land and Marine Landscapes Program (ELSP), within the framework of the project “Restore Javakheti’s Overhumid Areas”, the event “Unique Javakheta – Overhumid Areas D “A human welfare” was held, on the occasion of the World Day of Over Humidified Areas, on Friday.
The event was opened by Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Yuri Nozadze, who said that celebrating this day helps raise awareness about the importance of overcrowded areas.
“Georgia joins with the world and celebrates the Day of Overhumid Territories. High-humidity areas are paramount for ecosystem conservation and local people’s well-being. Georgia is rich in over-humid areas. We have recognized four superpower areas of international importance. “To preserve and preserve the wealth of our country, it is essential to involve the public and raise their awareness of what this event serves,” noted Yuri Nozadze.
Within the framework of the event, presentations were made on topics such as the Ramsar Convention – the importance of high-humidified areas for human well-being; restoration of highly humid regions in Java for birds and humans; Protected areas of Java; Ecotourism and local population; the topic of Java: high-humid regions of global importance.
Every year, on February 2, the day of overhumid areas in the world is celebrated. The Convention on Overheating Areas of International Importance, especially Waterfowl Habitats, has defined the 2024 theme as “overheating areas and human welfare”.
It is worth noting that Georgia has recognized four areas of international importance: Kolkata, Kobuleti, Bugdashen and Madatafa. Celebrating the World Day of Overhumidified Areas promotes public awareness about the importance of the over-humidified regions, as today, all over the world, water facilities are actively contaminated, dehydrated, reduced by unsustainable agricultural production, etc.Â
The representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, Agency of Protected Areas, Association of Ecotourism of Georgia, Ilia State University, scientific circles and the non-governmental sector attended the event.
