In the Kakheti region, a working meeting of the representatives of the forest sector was held, where the issues of planning forest care and restoration measures were discussed.
The National Forestry Agency of Georgia shared the glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook Page on May 1, 2026, Friday. The Agency also shared a small note about the meeting along with its glimpses.
Participants of the meeting discussed practices and methodology of reforestation, modern approaches to forest management, and existing challenges. Also, concrete measures that will contribute to the restoration and sustainable management of degraded forests were discussed.
The meeting was held within the framework of the project “Supporting the implementation of forest sector reform in Georgia – ECO Georgia“, which aims to support forest sector reform and strengthen sustainable forest management. Participants of the meeting also got acquainted with the project of restoration of Chali forest, where events are taking place on an area of up to 600 ha. It is also emphasized that forest restoration measures will be implemented in three target regions within the project.
“Increasing the regenerated area of degraded forests is one of the priorities of both forest reform and GCF projects. It is noteworthy that within the project, measures for reforestation will be carried out in three target regions – Kakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, and Guria, on a total area of 20,000 hectares,” said Besik Amiranashvili, the head of the National Forest Agency.
The meeting was held on the initiative of the National Forest Agency and was attended by representatives of the Adjara Forest Agency, the Agency of Protected Areas, the Agricultural Scientific and Research Center, and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
