The day of 25th February is celebrated as to day to recall the the occupation by the Russian forces. The national flag of the Goegria has been lowered on buildings including the building of Georgia Parliament.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the 25th is considered as a very significant day in Georgian history. On this day many events are held across the country to remember the events that were happened as a result of the occupation by Russian forces of the Georgian territory.
Moreover on the occasion of the day of Soviet occupation, the national flag was lowered over the parliament building of Georgia along with the other buildings. The press service of the Parliament provided the information regarding this development.
As per their informationit was stated that “On February 25, 2024, 103 years have passed since the annexation of the First Republic of Georgia by the cruel forces of Russia. On the occasion of the day of Soviet occupation of Georgian territory, the national flag of the country was lowered over the parliament building. At the same time as per the resolution of the Parliament of Georgia of July 21, 2010, February 25 is declared as the day of Soviet occupation”.
It is also worth mentioning that in honor of the victims of the occupation on this specific day, the state flags are flown all over the territory of Georgia at half mast. Notbalyt on February 25, 1921 the Red Army of Russia took Tbilisi and overthrew the government elected by the general public and through the free elections of Georgia. Moreover as a result of which it annexed the subject of Georgia in violation of international law,” it is noted in the information released by the Parliament.
On the other hand the Prime Minister and President of Georgia also stated that this is the day we should always remember as the darkest day in our country’s history.
