USAID helps Georgian Municipalities for better public services

Tbilisi: Johan Penel, the mission director of the USAID to Georgia, held a meeting with the local administration of Georgian Municipalities. The Mission Director vowed to assist the Municipalities of the Republic of Georgia to make their administration smooth and public-centric.

Johan Penel, Mission Director of the USAID (United States Agency For International Development), met with the vice mayor of Batumi Municipality, Levan Davitidze and chairman of the City Council, Ramaz Jincharadze. USAID is one of the premier international agencies and the largest aid agencies in the world.

USAID brought together many foreign assistance organisations and programs on a single platform.
During the meeting of the USAID mission director with the mayor and chairman, both sides talked about the continued partnership between Georgia and USAID. Moreover, some other issues were also discussed, like local government, the role of civil society in local administration, and the role of the private sector in upscaling the standard of living of common citizens of the country.

Notably, USAID had started the local government program in the year 2011. The Municipality of Batumi is part of the eleven municipalities that are being supported USAID-sponsored program.

The Mission Director stated that in the future, the number of our partner municipalities would increase especially in next the five-year program.

USAID is helping many Municipalities of Georgia for the timely and effective delivery of civic amenities.
This cooperation of the USAID to Municipalities will improve the quality of citizen’s life. The Mission Director also held a meeting with the Sakrebulo Chair, Ramaz Jincharadzre, to discuss the important issues of the Batumi Municipality that required an immediate response.

The Mission Director Said that the continued cooperation between civil society, private sector players, and common citizens has a very significant role in addressing the Grievances of the general public on a priority basis.

On their part, the official of the Batumi Municipality said that this cooperation between USAID and Georgian Agencies helped the Municipalities in many ways; it also enhanced the service delivery capabilities of the Municipalities that are part of the USAID-sponsored program.
